Costa Navarino and Anazoe Spa in Messinia, Greece

The Spa Traveller Review · Greece

Janet Brice travels to Messinia to experience olive-oil-inspired rituals at Anazoe Spa, Costa Navarino, on Greece’s Peloponnese coast.

How far would you travel to a spa? As I begin to relax into my olive oil and honey facial, the three-and-a-half-hour flight from London to Kalamata feels entirely worth it.

Costa Navarino sits on the Messenian coast of the Peloponnese, one of Greece’s most historically rich and scenically dramatic regions. The Anazoe Spa draws on the landscape in everything it does, with treatments inspired by local botanicals, olive oil, sea minerals and aromatic herbs.

The most memorable element is the sense that the treatment belongs to this landscape rather than having been imported into it.

Olive-oil-inspired ritual

Oleotherapy—the use of olive oil within spa and beauty rituals—is the house speciality. The treatment menu has included warming body experiences, massages using olive-oil blends and facial rituals influenced by regional traditions. My own two-hour experience left my skin feeling soft, comfortable and beautifully cared for.

A spa shaped by Messinia

The spa unfolds through interconnected pools, treatment spaces and relaxation areas that feel simultaneously grounded in local history and confidently contemporary. The thermal experience moves from indoor facilities towards outdoor water and quiet spaces framed by the wider resort landscape.

Costa Navarino’s environmental positioning extends beyond the treatment menu into its architecture and wider resort philosophy. For the guest, however, the most persuasive form of sustainability remains the experience itself: place-specific, thoughtful and difficult to reproduce elsewhere.

The Spa Traveller verdict

A destination ritual worth travelling for

Anazoe Spa works because it connects treatment, landscape and regional culture. It is particularly compelling for travellers who want their spa experience to feel inseparable from the destination.

  • Best for: destination-spa travellers, couples and guests combining wellness with a longer Peloponnese stay.
  • Signature: olive-oil-inspired treatments and a strong sense of place.
  • Plan ahead: confirm current facilities, treatment availability, prices and suitability directly before booking.
