Cotswolds · Nature-led spa · Spa break
Victoria Evans revisits her original stay at Cowley Manor’s C-Side Spa, a retreat shaped around water, woodland and the contours of its Cotswolds setting.
I followed a woodland path away from the Victorian manor and towards a low, contemporary building that seemed to disappear into the landscape. C-Side Spa did not announce itself with grandeur. Its appeal was quieter: glass, stone, water and a deliberate connection with the 55-acre estate around it.

A spa submerged in the landscape
The original C-Side experience was memorable because the architecture resisted the usual country-house-spa formula. The spa felt sculpted into the grounds rather than placed on top of them. Inside, the slate-lined pool created a calm, elemental atmosphere; outside, the water opened towards the trees and changing Cotswolds light.
My visit belonged to an earlier chapter of Cowley Manor. The treatment menu then featured ESPA and the outdoor pool was described to us as heated to 34°C. Those details are part of the historical account, not current booking information.
What stayed with me was the transition from manor house to woodland path to water: a spa experience led by its setting.

C-Side Spa today
Cowley Manor now trades as Cowley Manor Experimental. Its current spa information lists a 17-metre slate-lined indoor pool and a 15-metre outdoor pool, both open throughout the day and year-round. There are four treatment rooms, a gym, relaxation area, steam room, rainfall showers and sauna.
The present treatment partners are Biologique Recherche and Oskia, replacing the ESPA offer described in the original review. The menu includes facials, massage, body treatments and options designed for pregnancy. Treatments and facilities can change, so confirm the exact inclusions when booking.

Who it suits
- Couples: for a design-conscious Cotswolds break with the spa close to the main house.
- Swimmers: for substantial indoor and outdoor pools rather than a treatment-only spa.
- Nature seekers: for woodland walks and a spa building integrated into the estate.
- Families: children may use the pools during designated swim periods; current published times are 8–11am and 3.30–5pm.
The Spa Traveller verdict
C-Side remains compelling for the same reason it stood out on Victoria’s original visit: it makes the landscape part of the spa. The current incarnation adds a refreshed treatment programme while retaining the indoor-outdoor swimming experience at the heart of the retreat.
