Chantal Borciani revisits the restorative appeal of Daios Cove, where a private Cretan bay and the contemporary KĒPOS wellbeing hub now frame the spa experience.

When it is grey and cold at home, there is nothing quite like a sunny spa getaway. As I sank into cloud-soft towels for a 60-minute relax-and-renew massage at Daios Cove, the stresses and chills of home felt light years away.

I travelled to Daios Cove for a rejuvenating few days in the sun. The drive east from Heraklion crosses mountainous Cretan scenery, with glimpses of the Aegean Sea setting the tone before arrival.

Crete’s secluded cove

The resort descends a hillside towards a private bay, its architecture arranged to work with the rugged landscape. Rooms, suites and villas offer different levels of privacy, with many categories adding individual pools and broad sea views.

Days naturally move between the seawater infinity pool, the beach and the resort’s restaurants. The setting is polished, but the strongest luxury is space: the ability to retreat without feeling disconnected from the rest of the resort.

At Daios Cove, the landscape does much of the restorative work before a treatment even begins.

From Anne Semonin Spa to KĒPOS

My original visit centred on the former Anne Semonin Spa. Floor-to-ceiling glazing brought the bay into the indoor pool and fitness spaces, while low lighting, warm wood and secluded relaxation areas created a cocoon away from the sun.

That historical experience remains part of this review, but the facilities have since been completely redesigned. Today the 2,500m² KĒPOS wellbeing hub combines treatment rooms, thermal and water facilities, a Mind & Body Studio and indoor-and-outdoor BXR training.

The original treatment

On my visit, the treatment rooms combined tranquil colours and tactile finishes with a sense of privacy. After a consultation, the massage used a tailored essential-oil blend and focused on releasing travel tension without feeling overly clinical.

Two private spa suites then offered sauna, steam, bathing and treatment space for couples or small groups. The names, brands and precise configurations have changed with the KĒPOS redesign, so these details should be read as a record of the original experience rather than today’s booking menu.

Wellness programmes

KĒPOS now offers programmes that bring together movement, recovery, skincare and selected technology-led services. These should be approached as personal wellbeing experiences rather than medical treatment. Ask what is included, who delivers each element and whether any service is unsuitable for pregnancy, a health condition or medication before booking.

Defining luxury

Quality time is sacred, and Daios Cove understands this. The location, accommodation and restaurants make the resort feel complete, while the wellbeing offer gives guests a reason to structure the stay around more than sunshine.

I first fell in love with Crete for its climate, coastline and food. Daios Cove adds another dimension: a self-contained spa escape in one of the island’s most striking private-bay settings.
