A Scandinavian-chic House Spa

Indoor infinity pool at the House Spa, Dormy House

Cotswolds · Spa break · Spa & Golf

Dormy House combines honey-stone Cotswold character with an uplifting inside-out spa, a proper swimming pool and an easy sense of escape above Broadway.

Original first-person review published 16 May 2022. Current facilities, access and booking details were checked for this beta edition.

Languishing in a field of English lavender is how the House Spa at Dormy House can feel: warm, fragrant and pleasantly removed from ordinary routines.

The hotel sits high above Broadway on the Farncombe Estate, close to the golf course that inspired its name. In match play, “dormie” traditionally describes a player leading by as many holes as remain; equilibrium was also a fair description of how I felt after the spa day.

A Scandinavian-chic Cotswolds spa

Honey-stone cottages, lavender and poppy fields lead towards a hotel that established itself early as one of the Cotswolds’ most appealing spa addresses. The reception and Greenhouse relaxation space feel light and informal, with the warmth of a log burner lending a Scandinavian-chalet mood on cooler days.

The Bathing Room contains a 16m indoor infinity pool—large enough for leisurely lengths as well as poolside reading. Outside, a hydrotherapy pool and terrace extend the experience into the fresh air.

The luxury is not formality; it is having enough time and space to move from warmth to water without watching the clock.

The treatment experience

On my original visit, a Temple Spa facial called Totally Quenched and Drenched was chosen for dry skin. The ritual used rich textures, massage and hydration-focused products, leaving the complexion comfortable and refreshed.

My therapist’s massage technique had been informed by the work of massage educator Beata Aleksandrowicz, bringing a calm, intuitive rhythm to the treatment. At the time, Dormy House also offered a signature Silent Night Lavender Sleep Treatment for guests wanting a slower, deeply restful ritual.

Treatment names and product partners change. Read these details as a record of the reviewed experience and consult the current menu before booking. Today the House Spa lists six treatment rooms, including space for couples, with treatments available to hotel residents and to non-residents as part of a spa day.

Pool and thermal suite

The current thermal suite brings together warm and cool experiences, including an aromatic steam room, experience shower, Himalayan salt sauna and snow shower. These can feel invigorating or relaxing, but they should not be treated as medical therapy or as a way to cure respiratory, inflammatory or immune conditions.

Use heat and cold thoughtfully

  • Hydrate before and after thermal bathing.
  • Keep sessions comfortable rather than testing endurance.
  • Cool down gradually and stop if you feel dizzy, faint or unwell.
  • Seek medical advice before using intense heat or cold if pregnant, taking relevant medication or managing a cardiovascular or other health condition.

Who will enjoy Dormy House?

This is a strong choice for couples, friends and Cotswolds visitors who want a characterful hotel rather than a clinical wellness retreat. Golfers can use the spa as the softer half of an active break, while treatment-led guests can build a day around the pool, thermal suite and Greenhouse.

The Spa Traveller verdict

Dormy House delivers the sort of spa day that feels generous without becoming over-programmed. The pool is genuinely usable, the thermal journey has variety and the hotel’s Cotswold setting makes the transition back to everyday life feel agreeably gradual. “Walk in, float out” remains an apt ambition.
