Dream Malaysian destination spas: island and rainforest wellness

The Chateau Spa and Organic Wellness Resort in the Berjaya Hills, Malaysia

The Spa Traveller archive · Malaysia

Two very different Malaysian settings—an island resort in the South China Sea and a European-style wellness retreat in the Berjaya Hills—formed the basis of this original two-centre spa journey.

Sea and mountains

The original journey paired The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort on Redang Island with The Chateau Spa & Organic Wellness Resort in Malaysia’s Berjaya Hills, around 50 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. The idea was straightforward: begin with sand, sea and unstructured time, then move inland for a more programme-led wellness stay.

At the time, Teh Ming Wah described the combination as a balance between barefoot island relaxation and the more formal atmosphere of The Chateau. Guests could move from diving, snorkelling and beach time to fitness sessions, spa treatments and structured meals.

The Chateau: a rainforest wellness setting

The Chateau was presented as a destination spa surrounded by tropical rainforest. Its European-inspired architecture contrasted with an approach that combined Western spa products and technology with Malaysian hospitality.

The original report highlighted organic bed and bath linen, an organic-led restaurant offer and a large menu of programmes spanning stress management, fitness and weight management. Those descriptions reflect the property at the time of reporting. Programme names, clinical involvement and inclusions may have changed.

La Santé spa used VOYA products made with seaweed harvested from Ireland’s Atlantic coast, a choice intended to complement the resort’s organic positioning.

The Taaras: island time on Redang

The Taaras offered the coastal half of the journey: white sand, clear water and access to Redang Island’s marine environment. The original feature emphasised diving, snorkelling and spa products inspired by the sea.

Current resort information continues to list a spa and gym alongside snorkelling, island hopping, nature activities, water sports and a PADI dive centre. Transfers and sea conditions need careful planning, particularly when joining an island stay to a second Malaysian destination.

The original twinning package

The archived six-day, five-night itinerary combined three stops:

  • Berjaya Times Square: one night in a Club Superior Suite.
  • The Taaras: a Garden Suite, breakfast, two dinners, four-stop snorkelling and island hopping.
  • The Chateau: a Deluxe Room, daily meals, fitness and wellness sessions, a La Santé signature massage, a facial, a mud treatment in the salt grotto and a herbal bath or sauna experience.

This package is retained for the historical record and is not presented as currently bookable. Build a new itinerary from live hotel information rather than relying on these former inclusions.

Who the journey suited

The contrast was the attraction: The Taaras for travellers who wanted sea, diving and downtime; The Chateau for those drawn to a structured spa environment in the hills. Combining the two required more transit than a single-resort stay, but offered a broader view of Malaysian wellness travel.
